The Gender Development Association (GDA) is seeking a qualified consultant to provide technical expertise and capacity-building support for promoting climate-resilient agricultural practices in rural communities. About GDA
Established in 1991, the Gender Development Association (GDA) is a leading gender rights non-profit organization in Lao PDR. Our mission is to empower women and men to achieve gender equity through joint action, knowledge sharing, and efforts to end gender-based violence and discrimination. GDA operates in rural communities across Laos, partnering with international networks to drive positive change.

Project Background
This project focuses on establishing climate-resilient agriculture model families to ensure food security while promoting gender equality. Key activities include training and knowledge sharing in the following areas:

  • Water Conservation Techniques
  • Soil Management
  • Climate-Smart Crop Selection

Villagers will gain valuable knowledge to improve their livelihoods, productivity, and incomes, enabling them to share these practices within their communities.

Scope of Work
The consultant will:

  1. Develop and deliver training modules covering:
    • Water Conservation Techniques (e.g., rainwater harvesting, optimizing water use)
    • Soil Management (e.g., fertility improvement, erosion control, composting)
    • Climate-Smart Crop Selection (e.g., identifying crops suitable for changing climates)
  2. Provide hands-on coaching to farmers on sustainable agricultural practices.
  3. Develop user-friendly tools and training materials tailored for rural audiences.
  4. Conduct training sessions and produce detailed narrative reports.
  5. Submit a final report summarizing outcomes, challenges, and recommendations.

Deliverables

  • Training materials and handouts.
  • Narrative reports on training activities.
  • Final report highlighting key lessons and recommendations.

Desired Qualifications and Key Competencies

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in agriculture, rural development, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience delivering agricultural training.
  • Proven expertise in water conservation, soil management, and climate-smart agriculture.
  • Proficiency in Lao and English (written and spoken).
  • Strong ability to create practical training materials for rural audiences.
