Job Description

TERMS OF REFERENCE

Title: Legal Consultant
Duration: From September 2025 to March 2026 (Contract period: 7 months, with possibility of extension)
Location: Association for Development of Women and Legal Education (ADWLE)

The organization’s background:

The Association for the Development of Women and Legal Education (ADWLE) is a non-profit social organization established in 2012 by Ministry of Home Affair. ADWLE aims to promote gender equality, women’s rights, the elimination of violence against women and children, Anti Human Trafficking and Safe migration. To ensure women’s access to justice in the Lao PDR through the provision of free legal consultation and assistance services for women and children.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical advice on legal aid operations to lawyers at legal clinics of ADWLE;

  • Give advice, provide legal counseling, and draft relevant documents for clients;

  • Provide legal representation for eligible clients at all stages of the proceedings, especially women and children who are victims of domestic and social violence, sexual harassment and human trafficking;

  • Draft and revise claims/petitions, and inspect the relevant documents to protect clients and Follow up on ongoing cases regularly;

  • Collect client information and maintain recordkeeping in the database system (Clinic Case) as well as manage and monitor the system regularly;

  • Build trust and good relationship with law enforcement offices in Vientiane capital;

  • Develop legal information and easy-to-understand materials including brochures and pamphlets to help clients and the general public understand the law;

  • Attend the training, meeting and events assigned by the Director.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, political sciences, or related field is required

  • Must have a lawyer ID card and at least four years of experience in legal procedures.

  • Able to work under high pressure, detail-oriented, punctual, and quick learner.

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Command effective communication skills when coordinating with government agencies, communities and other organizations

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Lao is required.
