Background:

The CSO Fair is a pivotal annual event for Lao CSO organizations, providing a platform to showcase achievements and products developed through various projects and activities. The fair invites participants who have contributed to development work to display their successes. Effective communication is crucial to the event’s success, necessitating the creation of impactful advertising media to enhance visibility and significance. To achieve this, we seek a consultant specializing in event design and communications. The Communications Advisor will play a key role in supporting both fair related communications and event design to ensure the event is effectively promoted and executed.

Objective

The primary objective of the Communications Advisor is to promote the organization and its activities to both the Lao public and the Government of Laos, with a particular focus on ensuring the success of the CSO Fair and similar events.

Scope of Work

The Communications Advisor will be responsible for the following tasks:

1 Developing a Communications Strategy

  • Identify Key Messages: Develop clear, concise messages that resonate with target audiences, align with the Fair’s objectives, and tailor messages to different stakeholder groups.
  • Develop Content: Create engaging content in Lao and other relevant languages, using visuals, infographics, and videos to enhance understanding. Prepare press releases, social media posts, and promotional materials.
  • Engage Local Partners and Influencers: Collaborate with local CSOs and community leaders. Identify and engage social media influencers, and partner with government agencies when appropriate.
  • Plan Timeline and Budget: Create a detailed timeline for communication activities, allocate resources and budget for each activity, and consider cost-effective options suitable for the local context.
  • Implement the Strategy: Launch a pre-event awareness campaign, maintain consistent messaging across all channels, and encourage attendee participation and feedback.
  • Monitor and Evaluate: Track media coverage and social media engagement, collect feedback from attendees, and manage social media accounts.

2 Writing Press Releases and Articles

  • Draft and distribute press releases to media outlets and stakeholders.
  • Develop articles that highlight key initiatives and events, ensuring alignment with the organization’s communication strategy.

3 Organizing Events and Campaigns

  • Plan and execute events that promote the organization’s objectives, such as the CSO Fair.
  • Coordinate logistics, including venue selection, guest invitations, and event promotion.
  • Develop and implement campaigns that engage target audiences, utilizing various media platforms.

4 Liaising with Media and Stakeholders

  • Establish and maintain relationships with key media contacts.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for media inquiries.

5 Creating Promotional Materials

  • Design and produce promotional materials such as brochures, flyers, and digital content.
  • Ensure all materials are visually appealing and aligned with the organization’s branding guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in communications, with a focus on event management and media relations.
  • Strong writing and media editing skills, with the ability to create engaging content.
  • Proven experience in organizing successful events and campaigns.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
  • Proficiency in Lao and English languages (both written and spoken) is required.
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations or in the development sector is preferred.

Duration

The contract is for a period of 4 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs.

Reporting

The Communications Advisor will report directly to the coordinator and had of secretariats of the Lao CSO Coordination Committee (LCCC).
