About the Organization
Gender Development Association (GDA) has been a prominent advocate for gender rights in Lao PDR since 1991. GDA focuses on empowering women, promoting gender diversity, and supporting disabled individuals to achieve gender equity through collaborative actions, knowledge sharing, and initiatives to end gender-based violence and discrimination.
Project Background
The “Gender Equality through Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education” (GEVEE) project, implemented by GDA in partnership with Action Education in Laos (AE), operates in Oudomxay and Khammouan Provinces. It aims to strengthen gender-responsive education, enhance women’s economic empowerment, and foster an environment that promotes gender equality in Laos.
As part of the project, GDA seeks a consultant to develop high-quality photo and video documentaries to document transformative stories and case studies, showcasing the project’s impact on individuals and communities. These outputs will support advocacy efforts and inspire further action to promote gender equality.
Objectives
The consultancy aims to produce impactful photo and video documentaries that:
- Highlight transformative stories of individuals and communities empowered by the GEVEE project.
- Document case studies that demonstrate gender-responsive education and economic empowerment initiatives.
- Provide engaging content for advocacy, awareness-raising campaigns, and stakeholder engagement.
Scope of Work
Planning and Coordination:
- Attend initial briefing sessions with the GDA team to understand project goals and objectives.
- Identify key individuals, groups, and case studies for documentation.
- Develop a comprehensive work plan, storyboard, and production schedule.
Fieldwork:
- Visit project sites in Oudomxay and Khammouan Provinces to collect content.
- Conduct interviews with beneficiaries and stakeholders, ensuring gender sensitivity and cultural appropriateness.
- Capture high-quality photos and video footage emphasizing empowerment and vocational training.
Production:
- Create three short video documentaries (3–5 minutes each) featuring stories of change and case studies.
- Deliver at least 50 high-resolution, edited photographs with contextual captions.
- Ensure all content aligns with GDA’s branding and advocacy goals.
Post-Production:
- Edit videos with professional-grade visuals, transitions, and subtitles in English and Lao.
- Finalize photographs for maximum storytelling impact.
- Provide raw footage, unedited photos, and finalized materials to GDA.
Reporting:
- Submit a final report summarizing the documentation process, key findings, and recommendations for future advocacy content.
Deliverables
- Photos:
- At least 50 high-resolution, edited photographs with captions.
- Videos:
- Three short documentaries (3–5 minutes each), including English and Lao subtitles.
- Raw Materials:
- Raw footage and unedited photos for archival purposes.
- Report:
- A final report outlining the process, insights, and recommendations.
Consultant Qualifications
- Proven experience in photography and video production for development or advocacy projects.
- Knowledge of gender equality, vocational education, and community development.
- Strong storytelling skills and proficiency in video editing and photography tools.
- Experience working in rural or community-based settings in Laos or similar contexts.
- Proficiency in English and Lao (written and spoken).
