On July 10th, the Lao Civil Society Organization (Lao CSO), under the leadership of the Lao Civil Society Secretariats, held its annual meeting for the Sub-Sector Working Group on Environment at the Rose Hotel. Chaired by Dr. Chansy Phimphachanh, Chair of the Lao CSO Coordination Committee (LCCC), the meeting brought together over 30 representatives from Lao CSOs active in environmental work.
The focus of the meeting was on reviewing progress and setting future directions for the environmental sector. Key objectives included:
Reporting on 2023 achievements: Participants shared successes and challenges in implementing environmental initiatives.
Mid-year 2024 progress update: CSOs presented their progress towards achieving environmental goals for the year.
Developing the 2024 action plan: The group collaboratively crafted strategies and activities for the coming year.
Steering committee elections: A new leadership team was elected to guide the sector's efforts.
New Leadership: Ms. Souksaveuy Keotiamchanh, Director of Zero Waste, was elected as the new Head of Sectors, with Ms. Thipphavanh Souphatthone from TAKIENGLAO and Mr. Aod Douangprachanh from GCA serving as deputies.
