The Lao Civil Society Organizations Coordination Committee (LCCC) launched its sixth National CSO Fair on December 13, 2024, at the Parkson Shopping Centre. The two-day event showcases the achievements and products of civil society organizations across Laos, highlighting their contributions to national development.
Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Nisith Keopanya, and Mr. Jean-Gabriel Duss, Regional Director for the Mekong Region of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, joined other distinguished guests at the opening ceremony.
Dr. Chansy Phimpachan, Chairperson of LCCC, emphasized the fair's growing importance since its inception in 2018, noting increased participation each year. "This steady growth demonstrates both public awareness of our mandate and the expanding role of civil society organizations in contributing to Laos's National Socio-Economic Development Plan," she stated.
The fair features diverse activities, including exhibitions by technical working groups and CSO networks, sales of community products, and knowledge-sharing forums. A special highlight is the "16 Days of Activism" campaign focusing on preventing violence against women and girls. Cultural performances, theatrical presentations, and debates by youth groups, persons with disabilities, and ethnic communities add to the event's inclusive nature.
The event received support from numerous international partners, including the Swiss Representative Office, European Union Delegation, Embassy of France, and the Federal Republic of Germany through GIZ Laos under the CEGGA II programme. Other supporters include OXFAM, Bread for the World, International Republican Institute (IRI), and WWF-Laos.
Looking ahead, LCCC plans to expand its reach by organizing similar fairs in Luang Prabang and Khammouane provinces during the first quarter of 2025, furthering their mission to strengthen civil society engagement across the country.
The fair demonstrates the vital role of civil society organizations in Laos's development landscape and serves as a platform for enhancing cooperation between various stakeholders. It continues through December 14, featuring exhibitions and activities open to the public at Parkson Shopping Centre.
