Lao Government and CSOs work together to bridge development gaps
Both the Lao government and civil society Organisations (CSOs) play a vital role in the country’s development. However, collaboration is not always easy, and both parties want to work together more effectively.
To make this happen, the Provincial Office of Agriculture and Forestry invited local CSOs, government representatives, development partners, and the Lao CSOs Coordination Committee on 12 November in Khammouane. They engaged in open and productive discussions, sharing insights and best practices to find solutions how to improve development efforts.
Phonexay Manivongxay, Director of CAMKID, a local agricultural CSO from Bokeo Province, said, “Better coordination is needed between local CSOs and government authorities. Our successful approach is to hold bi-annual meetings, which ensure regular updates, smooth collaboration, and effective reporting."
The Citizen Engagement for Good Governance, Accountability, and the Rule of Law (CEGGA II) program has supported this meeting. The programme focuses on enhancing governance in Laos and leaving no one behind. It is funded by Switzerland, Germany, and the European Union and implemented by GIZ.
